small paintings on panel

Painting small allows me to move quickly and simply to completion, while continuing with a theme or color palette that makes for a consistent body of work.

These smaller paintings are a less expensive option to buyers who might not have the funds for larger work. They often work well together in groupings of 2 or more.

All of these paintings are on 1” deep wooden panels and are ready to hang. No framing necessary.

PRINTMAKING

I love printmaking. My favorite technique is solar plate etching (aka photopolymer etching), a non-toxic technique that uses UV light to expose an image onto a photo sensitive plate, which can then be inked and run through an etching press.

I also explore carborundum, chine collé, drypoint, monotype and collagraph, which all have their own unique qualities.

All of my prints were created at residencies in London, Glasgow, California and Spain that have excellent printmaking facilities.

LARGEr PAINTINGS ON PANEL

Panels are my favorite painting surface, because the strength of the support allows me to get physical, scraping and digging into the layers to create depth and complexity.

The panels are in a variety of sizes, from 14” x 11” to 36” x 36”. These are my larger works for a dramatic display.

I also do commissions on these larger panels, so be in touch if you want to discuss further.

The 1.5”- 2” wooden sides are painted black for a clean and contemporary presentation, and are ready to hang.

paintings on paper

Painting on paper is a great alternative to panel and when framed with a warm white mat, makes for a beautiful presentation.

I use 140 lb. Arches archival hot press paper which has a lovely smooth surface. The paintings have a small 1/2-1” border that looks great floated or matted when framed.

I also paint on archival Japanese Yupo paper, a synthetic paper that has a slick surface that takes the acrylic paint beautifully and doesn't warp or buckle. Easy to frame and mount on to panel.

Here’s what customers are saying…

"YES! I love my painting! It is even more beautiful in person where I can see the colors and textures up close. I'm thrilled to own an original Amy Clay!!”
- Sandra Burch, Sotheby’s, NY, NY

“From the first time I saw Amy's work at a pre-covid open studio visit, I knew I would be buying one of her paintings. Her work always moves me; her use of color is like a magical entry into another world. It's like falling down into a rabbit hole, but it's the good kind of rabbit hole. She inspires me in my work as well. I purchased "Dreamland #11" this past summer and it sits opposite my desk and above one of my favorite quotes. Like I said, magic!”
- Robin Salcido, Colorado

“I’ve wanted an Amy Clay painting since I first saw her work, and frankly the reason it took me so long to make a purchase was I couldn’t choose just one!  She’s so prolific and each new direction is as exciting as the one before.  Last week I decided to stop ruminating and just pull the trigger.  And I’m so happy with my choice, “The Bubbling Well #2.”  The energy, colors, layers, and textures evoke all that the title implies (you can feel confident that these are accurately depicted on her site as well), and speak to my own transitional journey. It was easy to order through her website and I was delighted when my gift arrived (perfectly packaged) less than a week later.”
- Nancy November Sloane, Florida

“I am delighted to say that I am a collector of Amy’s work, and love the ease of buying from her website. The work is ALWAYS better than it looks online, and arrives packed and shipped quickly and professionally. It’s like my birthday every time a package arrives from Amy! Each painting isn’t just a singular work, but a compilation of memories and experiences from wherever she has been in the world. I look forward to adding many more pieces to my collection!”
- Ali Goodwin, Keller Williams Realty, Portsmouth, ME

"It is completely amazing and I adore it. It's not just the multimedia creativity but also the sense of wonder and exploration, of recombination and expansion, that it conveys. I will spend hours poring happily over it -- thank you thank you thank you thank you thank you. It wanders in the most extraordinary and inspiring way.”
