Cill Rialaig Artist Retreat

This is my second time at this residency in southwest Ireland - this time I worked on a screenplay that I've been writing for a few years. I was inspired to write this screenplay after my first time in this gorgeous remote location. Half of the film is set in this green and bleak setting, the other half in the warm high desert landscape of Santa Fe, NM.

Briefly, this magical realism story is about finding and having the courage to live one’s authentic creative life, the sacrifices necessary, and walking the razor’s edge of fear and sanity. It’s been a lengthy labor of love, after first receiving the story as a complete “download” while living in London in 2013. I was in the middle of painting for a solo show there at the Hampstead Museum and had no time to flesh out this story, so I wrote the entire outline over the course of several weeks in 10 minute increments while on the Tube. Much more productive than looking at my phone like everyone else!
