a day at the cemetery, paris
spent a leisurely afternoon strolling the cobbled lanes where now reside paris' most permanent residents - the famously dead of pere-lachaise cemetery. my interest in the shadows continues in this landscape of post-mortem self promotion. i've included a few of the more interesting to my eye.
i passed on visiting jim morrison's grave, in favor of the lesser known. but really, the interest is in the monuments themselves, and the stories that have survived the deceased. clearly, the spirits are gone. as my unsentimental grandmother once said near her death, "don't bother visiting me at the cemetery, because i won't be there!".
